Heart to heart

Hey everyone! I’ve just got back from my charity event this morning. Each year summer, our MayFlower Foundation would organize student-based events where we came up with our own ideas for a meaningful project, especially for children with difficult circumstances.

This year, we have a chance to visit a Children’s home again. Last year, we even made lunch for the kids there, also as playing games like hide and seek. Yet this year, we decided to do something more special and meaningful that can keep memories in the children’s heart. So we chose our main activity to be drawing on plain tote bags!

We first started at about 9 a.m, luckily I was the first one to arrive at the orphanage, I was a bit confused about what to do in the meantime, yet my classmate Nhan appeared just in time to wait for our “teammates” with me. After we carried all the essential supplies inside the orphanage, we quickly greeted the owner and played the “hot potato game” with the kids. I have to say, the children grow up so different from the last time that I met them.

The children seems to enjoy our company so much, even though it was a bit chaotic because there were too many kids. We were even afraid that there were not enough arcrylic markers for drawing. A girl asked me to help her with drawing a butterfly, it looked a bit simple but at least I’ve tried my best, my friends and I kept on teasing each other about how “good” we are doing. Some of the kids even draw better than us! They are really talented with creative ideas.

We stayed until 11 a.m only because the kids need to have lunch and take their nap times. And our “crew” decided to go and have lunches together before some fly back to the US, and as the Treasurer, I decided that our budget would be about 500k VND, but it ends up being more than 2 millions…but at least we hade fun, shared food and precious memories together as a group.

To be honest, I’ve thought that I can eat spicy food really well, not until I tried the Thai version of salad, it was so spicy that all of us had to drink a whole bottle of water. At the end of the day, it was a fun and memorable day for all of us as our first year working together, and I really enjoyed being part of them.
