My first research project

Hey guys! So I am currently working on a project in the psychology field so I would like to tell you about it!

Research was something I had always associated with university students and professional academics, so I never imagined I would have the opportunity to conduct one myself in high school. At first, the process felt overwhelming. Finding a meaningful topic, reading academic papers, and understanding research methods seemed far more challenging than I had expected. However, as I progressed, I realized that research is not simply about collecting information—it is about asking questions that matter and searching for evidence to answer them.

For this project, I explored the relationship between stress and lots aspects of modern student life: physical activity, smartphone use, academic pressure, phone use frequency and more. I began by reviewing previous studies from academic journals to understand what researchers had already discovered. Reading systematic reviews and empirical studies helped me identify common findings, suitable measurement scales, and possible gaps in the existing literature. I also learned how to evaluate the credibility of sources instead of relying solely on information found online.

One of the most valuable lessons came from designing the study itself. From identifying variables and selecting appropriate questionnaires to considering ethical issues and planning data collection, I gained a much deeper appreciation for the effort behind every published research paper. Every decision required careful thought to ensure that the study would produce meaningful and reliable results.

Although the project is still ongoing, this experience has transformed the way I view research. It has strengthened my critical thinking, taught me to analyze evidence objectively, and shown me the importance of curiosity and persistence. More importantly, it has inspired me to continue exploring questions that can make a positive impact on people’s lives. Looking back, this research journey has been more than just an academic project—it has been an opportunity to grow as both a student and an aspiring lifelong learner.

Even though I am only on the first few steps of my own project, I have a feeling that I can do this with the help and support from my mentors and parents. What about you, have you ever done a research paper before?
